In the basement, Hyde is seen reading a June 1976 issue of MAD Magazine. He complains about Jackie interrupting his reading of a parody of Smokey and the Bandit , though the movie wasn't released until 1977.
Jackie buys a small amount of marijuana to impress Hyde, but the police catch them. In a pivotal moment for their developing relationship, Hyde takes the blame for her and ends up in jail.
