Right-click the video while it's playing, go to Subtitle > Add Subtitle File... , and select your .srt file.
Use G to delay the subtitle and H to speed it up (50ms increments).
If your video is a .mkv file, it may already have English subtitles built-in. Use the Subtitle menu in your player to toggle between the internal tracks and your external file.
