My Skin - On

Skin is the most visible boundary between ourselves and the world. It is our largest organ, making up about 15% of our body weight and covering roughly 20 square feet. Yet, beyond its biological functions—as a barrier against germs, a regulator of temperature, and a sensory map for the brain—it serves as a living canvas. Every mark, scar, and wrinkle on our skin tells a story of where we have been and who we are becoming. The Narrative of Marks and Scars

From the moment we are born, our skin begins to collect a history. Some of these stories are written in the genetic code we inherit, such as the texture of our hair or the tendency toward conditions like psoriasis or eczema. Others are earned through experience: At War with My Skin | The New Yorker On My Skin
