The narrative centers on a homeless man in his 60s who receives a terminal diagnosis. While many would spend their final days in despair or indulgence, his priority shifts entirely to the survival of his dog. This central motivation serves as the catalyst for a difficult pilgrimage back to his hometown—a place he abandoned decades ago. His return is not just a physical journey, but a spiritual one, as he attempts to reconnect with relatives who have long since written him off.
The film’s title, Kundel , is double-edged. Literally, it refers to the protagonist’s mixed-breed dog, a creature that asks for nothing but gives everything. Symbolically, however, it describes the man himself: a societal "stray" who has lived on the margins, disconnected and overlooked.
